Freestyle
The arrival of John Travolta's dance film; "Saturday Night Fever" in the late 1970's, followed by Staying Alive, Grease anf Fame, started a dance craze that is still with us all, in that people wish to dance in a slightly less regimented manner.
Many of the current 'chart' hits are used on a regular basis, and members are encouraged to provide their choreography as well as that provided by the teachers.
Alicia Neale is our newly qualified disco teacher with the ‘Imperial Spciety of Teachers of Dancing‘, and with her she brings a totaly new angle to our classes, that is lively, energetic and modern! Alicia’s classes encourager the pupils to express them selves freeely to thier favourite pop track of the day!
This Freestyle dancing also helps our youngsters to manage their weight in an enjoyable way, and they are alway encouraged to warmup before dancing and to cool dows afterwards! This policy is inline with the I.S.T.D. guidelines published for teachers who have acquiered the Certificate in Dance Education CDE.
"Rock 'n' Roll" is as popular as ever with pupils of all ages, and the youngsters are NO exception! There are many diferenmt foot pasterns available We teach one of the simpler varieties the ‚International or nine step style‘. We always although we do promote safe dancing and therefore discourage the acrobatic element of this style of dance, especially within the class environment.
