  Examinations

There are many different levels of achievement all with different rewards.

The I.S.T.D Medal structure has been designed to cater for all ages and abilities, and provide ALL with a course of examinations that is relative to their personal circumstances.

There are four main ages ranges within which examinations (medals) can be taken and two of these are further sub-divided.  These main age groups are:

Type Description
Juvenile All candidates that are 11 years old and under. This group is further split into Under 6's and Under 8's.
Junior All candidates whose age is between 12 and 15 years old inclusive.
Adult This age range is for all candidates that are 16 years of age and over. This group has a sub-group, Senior for the Over 50's, that in optional but obviously it does make allowances for the older candidate, and ensures that their ability is NOT compared with that of a 20 year old.
Student This is an Adult category specifically designed for those that are thinking of following a professional career within Dance.

Within ALL these age groups there runs a common range of Examinations/Medals that can be taken from the 'Social Dance Test' through to the 'Alex Moore and Peggy Spencer Awards'.

As you progress through these Examinations/Medals, the standard required obviously increases, and generally until the previous Examination has been successfully passed, you are unable to p rogress to the next level.

The pass mark for all Examinations / Medals is 65% achieved in each dance, with the following distinctions awarded for the overall average mark achieved:

'Commended' (75% overall)

'Honors' (85% overall)

Within "Phillips Dancing" we also present on an 'Annual Basis' a further award to the Under 16's pupil that achieves the highest overall % for their 'Examination/Medal', within the three different faculties (Latin American, Disco and Modern Ballroom) that our pupils study.
