Phillips Dancing
Phillips Dancing, previously known as Phillips School of Dancing, is the result of our Founder members, Janette Phillips, dream to teach Ballroom and Latin American Dancing to the masses, that became reality in November 1970.
Originally meeting once a week, wednesday evenings, at the Royal British Legion Memorial Hall in Newland Street, Witham, Essex.
From our humble beginnings we have grown in such a way that we currently meet four nights per week. Our syllabus of styles of dance has also grown, we now teach American Line Dancing, Disco and Rock 'n' Roll in addition to the two styles previously mentioned. The age range of our members is also very diverse, from the Under 8's through the teens to the early retired.
All our teaching staff are fully qualified with the Imperial Society of Teaches of Dancing (I.S.T.D).
Over the past 30 years we have achieved an enviable track record as far as training members to their objective and pass their examinations with the I.S.T.D, and can report that over the last 10 years or may be even longer, we have had NO failures, and that over 90% have generally obtained a grading of 85% or above.
Our under 16's have historically had a burning desire to compete in local competitions, Essex and East London, which lead to us joining the 'Superdance' league, with three teams being drawn from all areas of our members; Junior, Adult 'A' and an Adult 'B' team.
